The red-green colored "Mandarin Duck and Lotus Pond" cup traces its craftsmanship origin to the "red-green colored" porcelain of the Cizhou Kiln system in the Song Dynasty, and it gradually matured and became popular during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In terms of craftsmanship, a white-glazed plain porcelain body is first fired at a high temperature. Then, with red and green as the main colors (supplemented by yellow, black and other colors in some cases), patterns are directly hand-painted on the glaze surface. Finally, it undergoes a second firing at a low temperature of approximately 800°C. Since no complex undercoating is required for the colors—they are applied directly on the white glaze—the finished product features strong color contrast, bright and vivid hues, fully demonstrating the simple vitality of folk porcelain.
